It looked clear to me that he was going to do whatever it would take to stay in power no matter how much blood was shed. His own actions and his statements of intent made that clear. So I don't know how you can advance some kind of rebuttal based on "possible killings".

As far as a military decision being made, I think we had plenty of evidence to make the decision we did on humanitarian grounds.

I also think we have a strategic interest in not having a civil war going on in Libya while a more democratic form of governance is trying to take root in Tunisia and Egypt. If we want to be a champion of democracy, peace, and individual freedoms, it's a reasonable goal to have that block of important N. African countries all on the same page. That can't happen with Gadaffi waging war on his population right in the middle.

Apparently, the Egyptian military is now arming and training the Libyan rebels, or so I read this morning. Down the road, these three nations could form a robust economic block of sorts. Nothing fosters peace and democracy better than economic well-being.
