NET NEWS STORY:What a Web week!
Saturday Morning: AOL

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- A big week for Wall Street and cyberspace could mean some changes for the way you handle your investments and the way you use the World Wide Web.

America Online's (AOL) $4 billion purchase of Netscape Communications appears to be giving confidence to investors in Internet stocks. Shares of Internet stocks large and small caught fire this week. Some, such as auctioneer Onsale (ONSL) and tiny book seller Books-A-Million (BAMM), logged gargantuan gains. Onsale shares have risen more than 800 percent since Oct. 7. See story.

AOL just might be voicing a bright outlook for the U.S. economy and for the future of electronic commerce on the World Wide Web. The two companies will have no fewer than 30 million users gazing at their Web and private network offerings. See StockWatch.

Stacey Tisdale

CBS MarketWatch television correspondent Stacey Tisdale will broadcast a report this weekend on AOL and on the raging U.S. stock market, whose Dow Jones Industrial Average at one point this week notched an all-time high.

The segment will air on CBS Saturday Morning around 10 a.m. ET Saturday. (Check your local programming guide for times in your area.)

Tisdale will answer questions about the future of the Web, post AOL-Netscape merger. Oh, and can some analysts really be calling for Dow 10,000 in early 1999?

Stay tuned.
