Gadolite is an MRI contrast agent for imaging the GI tract. Being metallic (Gadolinium), it provides intense imaging. A New Drug Application was filed with the FDA in September. They have also filed for approval in U.K.

Gadolite is not a PDT agent. The significance of the product to PCYC's PDT program is that profits from Gadolite could fund development of PDT agents. PCYC has a unique family of texaphyrins -- "Texas-sized porphyrins" with some unique therapeutic characteristics. Some examples -- they have a radiation sensitizer that binds to cancerous cells, a PDT agent which can be used in deep tissue and with pigmented cancers, and a program in using PDT in atheromatous plaque (a potential alternative to coronary angioplasty).

There was an article on PDT in Business Week on 6/10/96. It gave an overview of the field, and discussed the major companies working on PDT.
