I can't make the choice for you! Impala's share price is very strong. Amplats will be a sure winner if platinum runs, as it looks like it is. And, as you say, it has better long-term potential. Clearly both have merit. Certainly as good as anything on the mining list. Probably better than most.
Coming back to Dries, I really don't know how anyone can see where the best investment potential lies because those in the know have done their sums and the answers are already factored into the share prices. Dries will no longer be Driefontein but new Goldfields so I don't understand, unless one has special knowledge, how anyone can appraise the investment merit of a company which is still to be created. I would say it's better to avoid an investment until the dust settles. AngloGold is still my favorite --- as I say --- Anglo always wins! For people who are not experts in gold shares, and even if they are, Anglo/AngloGold should be a core holding.
Apropos the social and political uncertainties in SAf, well there's nothing new in that department. I don't want to present an optimistic scenario because, by nature, I'm a cynic and I love to be negative! I hate ALL politicians. However, I'm sure, for what it's worth, that SAf is still the best country in Africa and probably still better than many/most in the world. Central Africa/Congo/Angola are all real bad but, so far, it's still OK here. Certainly OK for a flutter in Platinum or whatever. As we've discussed, where else can one find a decent platinum mine?! And the platinum price is running. |
