Gottfried,
SI wont let me post responses to you directly today. Anyway I am a rambling man and my post was just stream of conciousness and i didnt edit it. The world economy and thus world peace and progress are at stake. AG will not be concerned about an extra point of inflation in 2002 with all this at stake. It is not a contradiction that he tried to head off inflation last year and now that a recession is here, he will deal strictly with it and worry about inflation later. Heading off inflation without creating recession was job 1 in 2000. Now heading off or stopping recession will be done with a seeming disregard for future inflaition. Next year he will get a another chance to do that job correctly. And he might have achieved the soft landing if it werent for energy and election matters combined with the last 2 rate increases. Mike
