I would have more respect for "Women's Studies" academics if more of them went after Islam for the way they treat women instead of PC'ing it.

Large debates throughout the 90s on various incarnations of these questions. There are many and the positions are multiple, hotly held, and intensely debated. Patriarchy is no small category here.
