Ahead of Samsung officially announcing its newest flagship chipset, some media outlets in Korea are reporting on the performance of the new Exynos 2600. This chip is what we expect to see powering the Samsung Galaxy S26 series in at least part of the world, early next year.
According to these reports, the Exynos 2600 will have over 6x stronger NPU performance when compared to the Apple A19 Pro, which is in the iPhone 17 Pro. It also has 14% higher multi-core CPU performance, 75% higher GPU performance compared to the A19 Pro. Which is pretty impressive, since the A19 Pro is pretty much the chip to beat right now. But you’ll notice that the single-core was not mentioned here, which means Apple is the undisputed leader for right now.
When compared to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Exynos 2600 is reportedly seeing 30% higher NPU performance and 29% higher GPU performance.
Exynos 2600 is rumored to power Galaxy S26 Ultra in some regions These look pretty good for the Exynos 2600, as Exynos usually has trouble with performance. But this year, it looks like Samsung will be using it in some regions for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and not the entire lineup. This is an interesting choice, as Samsung typically uses Exynos on the entire lineup when they have used the dual-chip approach in the past.
It’s highly unlikely that the US would get an Exynos 2600-powered Galaxy S26 Ultra. It’ll likely remain the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 here. And the reason for that is the carriers. Qualcomm has worked closely with the carriers and has a lot of patents for 5G networks related to the US. Meaning that other modems perform worse – even Apple’s own modem performs worse than Qualcomm’s.
PS Angstrom AP Fone wars JUST started. Great for Shrink n Stack bits. An EXE/NXE/NXTi bonanza.
