'Anything is possible if it doesn't have to be demonstrated' seems to be a general principle these days.

But your second statement above seems to be a disproof of the first by contradiction (in logical terms). I think people can believe anything they want ... but public policy can't be based upon such principles - although we see it in the secular world

e.g. "banks are too big to fail".

The government has the power of fiat currency and the banks simply run a skimming operation. They provide a useful function in western societies but clearly as the S&L debacle shows us - no they aren't so big they can't fail. What is actually true is that their wealthy owners assure that their personal wealth is dependent upon, yet detached from, and independent of, the magnitude of the wealth they skim a piece from. This fallacious thinking seems to be characteristic of human social institutions, which mostly set their principles on articles faith of some kind. JMHO.
