PHILADELPHIA STOCK EXCHANGE SECTOR INDEX OPTIONS
VOLUME UP 16%; STOCK VOLUME RISES 27%



(PHILADELPHIA) Sept. 6 - The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that August
volume in the PHLX's 11 sector index options increased 16 % when 364, 980 contracts traded as
compared to the same time period in 2000 when 314, 446 contracts traded.

The PHLX currently lists options on eleven sector indexes: PHLX/KBW Bank Sector (BKX);
Computer Box Maker Sector (BMX); Drug Sector (RXS); Forest and Paper Products Sector (FPP);
Gold/Silver Sector (XAU); Oil Service Sector (OSX); OTC Prime Sector (OTX); The Street.com
Internet Sector (DOT); Semiconductor Sector (SOX); Utility Sector (UTY); and Wireless Telecom
Sector (YLS).

Equity trading volume for August was 177,617,176 shares traded, a 27% increase over the
same year ago period when 139,386,878 shares traded.

Equity options volume was 5,889,404, a decrease of less than one percent when 5,923,531
contracts traded in the same year-ago period.

August 2001 volume in the PHLX's customized and standardized currency options was 31,669
contracts traded, down from 49,655 contracts traded in the same month last year representing a
36% decrease.
