I would like to respond to a couple of comments/questions you made. I broke them into parts to more easily answer.

parallel the things you say."
The woman who went into the wilderness is NOT the same woman that emerges in Rev.ch. 17 as MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Quite on the contrary. The woman in Rev. 12 is the part of the jewish nation that brought forth Christ. It says:
"THE WOMAN THAT BROUGHT FORTH THE MAN CHILD" It is John the Baptist, Joseph, the Mother of Jesu the Apistles, the Disciples and all the jewish saints that believed in Jesus that brought forth the man chil.
The Jewish nation at that point was divided into the Christian Jews and the antichrist Jews. The Christian Jews became the Church.
The antichrist jews became MYSTERY BABYLON THE BREAT HARLOT.(the reason the Scriputres call her the mother of all spiritual harlots is because she was once married to God almighty and betrayed him by commiting fornication and adultery against God by rejecting His Son Jesus Christ.)
Without this understanding , we cannot understand Chs. 17 and 18 of Rev. and Ch.7 of Daniel and verse 17 of rev. 12.
The descendants of the jewish Christians have been miraculously preserved by God.
In Rev. 12:17, the Spirit says:
"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of herseed, which keep the commandments of God, and the testimony of Jesus
Christ."
We know for sure that the devil is not wroth with the "woman" that rejected Jesus Christ--the antichrist jews. The dragon is wroth with the woman and her seed that accepted Jesus Christ--the Christian jews and other.
Returning to Rev. 17, we see that the dragon and the MYSTERY BABYLON THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS are the same.
Jesus explained the mystery of BABYLON THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS in the Parable of the wicked Husbandmen in Ch.12 of St. Mark. The Jews that rejected Jesus and their leaders the Pharisees and Scribes killed the heir(Jesus) of the vineyard(the people and the world) and set aabout falsely claiming the inheritance for themselves. This is the true condition of Talmudic Judaism today. They are deceived by satan in believing that they are the true heirs of Gods kingdom.
Since the rebel Talmudic Jews of today were once married to God, they become the MOTHER OF OF ALL SPIRITUAL HARLOTS when they divorce God by rejecting God's greates gift__Jesus Christ the Messiah.
It is this Harlot that is now enthroned in New York sitting on the sitting on the power of the beasts which controls peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues.
