<< "decieve",

Trufflette, the punctuation goes inside the quotation mark. I don't want to think that I was scouring your post for mistakes; I was not, it's just that that jumped right out at me and made me stop and think What's he saying here? Oh, there's a comma out of place, now I get it. >>

Codswallop. We should not be surprised that one so wrong about everything Iomegan is also wrong when it comes to style. The argument for proper positioning of quotations and stops was nicely made by the brothers Fowler in their now classical work, *THE KING'S ENGLISH*. I particularly draw your attention to Chapter IV, Punctuation, Quotation marks, Order with stops, which in my edition is on page 291. Briefly: punctuation marks go within the quotes if they are part of the original quotation, otherwise without. In Trufflette's case the comma was her comma, and played no role in RmacP's piece. I suyppose if one wanted to be picky with T I'd fault her for not using another comma after "attracks".
