The N75 on Cingular

GradB

<< For me, the rollout of the N75 is going to be a tell on Nokia's performance in the US market. ... My reading of the "widely available" comment for Q4 is that Cingular will sign on. I will view it as a huge Nokia blunder if this phone does not get picked up. >>

I TOTALLY agree. I'd like to think that Cingular needs the N75 as much as Nokia needs to have it FCC certified and Cingular qualified rapidly.

It's good to see the E62 on Cingular shelves, marking the return of a Symbian S60 mobile device to the Cingular lineup since the on-again/off-again Nokia 6682 has been MIA for many moons. The E62 and N75 will make a nice Symbian S60 combo, but the 132 minute WCDMA N75 talk time is a bit scary.

As for "widely available" in Q4, that's going to take some doing. Supposedly it's already in Cingular test, but its imperative that they get the initial firmware for Cingular stable and fully functional on the initial cut.

<< Looks like Nokia has finally gotten the operating bands and modes right, although there is no mention of HSDPA. >>

Evidently Symbian OS v9.2 is requisite to support HSDPA. That's actually a positive since I thought v9.3 would be required, but presumably it will be accommodated and debugged in the v9.2 firmware for the N95.

I'm not sure what happened to the WCDMA enabled Samsungs -- including the HSDPA enabled model -- that were promised (and the SGH-ZX20 supposedly launched at August end) but so far as I can tell the HSDPA enabled LG CU500 is the only WCDMA handset currently available on Cingular.

Best,
