"bankruptcies from brokers"

Just keep your broker account within the limits of the spic, you might need several brokers if you have enough funds to be over the limit in one of them. If the spic goes bellyup, the government would have to bail them out. I've seen many selloffs, but I can't remember any brokers going out of business because of them. But there are a lot more brokers than there was a few years ago. True, if enough people close their accounts, the broker stocks will take a hit in their stock price. Most brokers are insured only to $100,000 cash, but their clients stock holdings are insured for much more than that. JH
