I woke up this morning with a somewhat different view of the Michelle Obama speech. While I stand by my observation that it was a lovely, well-delivered if platitude-laden discourse on values and family, it was also something else: phony .

Political figures frequently try to pawn themselves off as things they are not. Sometimes their wives join in.

This notion that Mrs. Obama is a serene, appreciative mainstream woman with a good old-fashioned love of America is just claptrap. She joins her husband in allowing her regard for the nation to be lowered for electoral convenience. Her momentarily believable address should not be allowed to outweigh the multiple times the real Michelle has spoken up about America (“downright mean,” first proud moment, etc.)

America simply must be portrayed as a distressed, flawed land that has strayed from the course the left views as necessary. That’s funny, because I feel America has risen to new heights and achieved vital clarity in doing things like going to war against Islamic terror.

Tonight’s stakes are now even higher, because even Democrat analysts are calling night number one a dud.

This morning’s highlights involved a chat with “Obama Nation” author Jerome Corsi and famed abortion activist Faye Wattleton.

Dr. Corsi is a very gracious man who has been involved in two noble books. The first was “Unfit For Command,” which outed John Kerry for exaggerating the circumstances that earned him Vietnam medals. This “swift boat” campaign was successful and virtuous, never having been discredited on merit.

Yet the media wished the stories to be untrue, so to this day, “swift-boating” is a verb misused to mean an unfair or inaccurate campaign of criticism. This usage must stop.

Dr. Corsi’s second worthy book is his current one, which studiously points to areas of concern about the radical views and associations of Barack Obama. Good for him.

I had to bring up, though, the shameful manner in which he has sought to scare people about the supposed eradication of our borders and the extinction of the dollar in favor of the “Amero,” which would span our continent just as the Euro superseded many currencies in Europe.

Should we be vigilant about this? of course. On guard to make sure it doesn’t happen? Of course. But to suggest with such urgency that plans for such tectonic change are underway in the halls of power today is a cheap stunt designed to attract attention and make money. I hope we see more of the good Corsi and less of the bad.

Meanwhile, Faye Wattleton is simply one of the most well-preserved 65 year-old women I’ve ever seen. Hard-core feminism must keep you young.

She has followed 14 years as head of Planned Parenthood with a similar tenure at the Center for the Advancement of Women. Her agenda has broadened from the specificity of the abortion rights she championed from 1978 to 1992. She now seeks to fight for women wronged by societal discrimination, since our laws have been purged of sexism.

I presented her with my thesis that Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned not so pro-lifers can win, but because the Constitution contains no right to abortion. Such unaddressed matters rightly go to the states. Since I am willing to accept that states enjoying such liberty may pass abortion laws more permissive than I would like, I asked why she should not accept the possibility that some states would be more restrictive than she would like.

She wove a horrible tale of back alleys and coat hangers, and our time was up. I will persist.
