Silicon Graphics Announces Extension of Developer Program to Include Support For Windows NT Developers

Expanded Developer Program Helps NT Developers Create Differentiated Software Using OpenGL and Other Cross Platform APIs for Visual PCs

January 27, 1998 11:00 AM

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics, Inc. SGI today announced at the European Developer Forum services committed to supporting Windows NT(R) developers who are planning to implement OpenGL(R) and the Fahrenheit project APIs. The worldwide program extension is designed to assist developers in differentiating and/or optimizing their applications for the upcoming Silicon Graphics(R) Visual PC systems by providing enhanced levels of technical and marketing support.

The formation of the new Developer Program services builds on Silicon Graphics' relationship with Microsoft and helps lay the foundation for its upcoming introduction of Visual PC systems. The program is also a key part of the company's strategy to deliver products with unique value including solutions that leverage the differentiated capabilities built into these products. Application developers have always played a core role in defining and delivering the value of Silicon Graphics systems, a role that will now include the thousands of Windows NT developers.

"Developer relationships and differentiated solutions are instrumental to the success of our Visual PC products. It is important for Silicon Graphics to provide developers with dedicated support to ensure application availability and optimal performance on our future NT/Intel-based systems," said Todd Johnson, vice president of Marketing for Silicon Graphics. "With this addition to our existing Developer Program, we welcome both multi-platform and Windows NT developers to the Silicon Graphics community."

DEVELOPER PROGRAM

The new Developer Program services are being designed to build on the existing IRIX(R)-focused Developer Program, which consists of four program levels: Developer Online, Developer Subscription, Artisan and Artisan Plus.

Initially, support for multiplatform development will be provided at the Developer Online level, which will be available at no charge to all software developers. Current offerings will be enhanced with technical information and support on cross-platform development and will be available worldwide.

AVAILABILITY

Interested developers are eligible to register immediately for the Developer Online program level. Subscription, Artisan and Artisan Plus services will be introduced during calendar 1998, coinciding with the release schedule of the new Visual PC systems.

The new Silicon Graphics' Developer Program services will operate in conjunction with the existing developer support programs offered by Microsoft. The Microsoft Developer Network programs provide developers support for their basic Windows NT applications development.

Silicon Graphics' program is intended to give developers complementary support in developing solutions that take advantage of Silicon Graphics' technologies under development for the PC platform. The program will be made available to a wide range of software developers, from individuals to large corporations.
