He has made mistakes, to be sure. (His failure to accept McCain’s imaginative proposal for a series of unmediated joint appearances was among them.) It was never a mistake to avoid a long series of "town hall" joint appearances. The main reason the McCain campaign proposed such an arrangement was to restrict Obama's campaign appearances to only those venues where McCain agreed. It was wise of the Obama campaign to expand the venue far beyond McCain's comfort zone. TP
