The problem is that we are in no position to bring everyone up to a sufficient level of affluence, nor to effect such cultural changes as will permit this advent of peace. Thus, it is unpredictable when we might make a substantial movement away from war, and, until then, we have to defend ourselves and promote good results over bad, sometimes when the Bad is heavily armed.
When the ball gets rolling, things happen very quickly. Unimaginable stuff happen and happen very quickly. Some small examples:
Ten years ago who could have known how quickly the Internet could take hold. That is in only ten years!!!
Fifty years ago, the fight for civil rights and equal rights for women looked much more dismal than it does today.
Two hundred and fifty years ago, the idea that you can only govern with the consent of those being governed started to surface. Today, only China is the last major hold out. How long do you think that can last? They can only delay the inevitable. The same can be said about the Arab world.
Just look at the trajectory. It has only been after several thousand years of civilization. Cosmically speaking, that is no time at all.
Violence and killing of people are barbaric. There is no need for it. Besides, it is absolutely wrong. There is no chance that violence and killing of people will be tolerated in the very near future.
Sure there are going to be hold outs - some even thinking they can committ killing for the right reasons. |
