Good posts by both you and AJ. I'd agree that a two-party system tends to empower the extremes and force those in the center to pick between them. Although.... The UK has long had a 2-party system and seems to have largely avoided this. Or do I just not know recent British history well enough? If Baker really represents the center, then the only honorable thing to do is go to one extreme or the other. Dog knows, I certainly wouldn't want to be classed with him. Congrats to you and AJ. :-)
