Ten years ago who could have known how quickly the Internet could take hold. That is in only ten years!!!

The Internet has been around for more then 10 years, but it certainly has exploded in the last 10. Changes in technology and in uses for technology can happen fairly quickly.

Fifty years ago, the fight for civil rights and equal rights for women looked much more dismal than it does today.

Eliminating violence in the world isn't a task similar to eliminating formal legal discrimination against women or people of certain races in the US. Its more like eliminating all prejudice and bigotry from the hearts of everyone on the earth.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, the idea that you can only govern with the consent of those being governed started to surface. Today, only China is the last major hold out. How long do you think that can last? They can only delay the inevitable. The same can be said about the Arab world.

A lot of the world is still governed by dictators. Even a lot of the countries that are officially democracies really are not (Egypt is an example that comes to mind). But we might get the world to be almost totally democratic within a century. Such a change would be big but it would be a lot smaller than eliminating violence. Changing ideas and social structures can be hard but its tremendously easier than changing human nature.

There is no chance that violence and killing of people will be tolerated in the very near future.

It will almost definitely be tolerated for some time under certain circumstances, but even if it isn't tolerated that doesn't mean it will not happen.

Sure there are going to be hold outs - some even thinking they can committ killing for the right reasons.

OK, while we are still fairly far apart on this we might not be as far apart as I thought.
