Reciting a litany of Apple's past tactical and strategic mistakes is both pointless and redundant. Virtually eveyone who reads this board knows them by heart. The issue now is whether Apple can recover. I think, yes. You don't seem so sure. Fair enough.
Nobody at Apple really wants to kill the clones right now. Regardless of the fact they've been canibalizing H/W sales. For better or worse, they've come to symbolize Apple's commitment to expanding the user base, despite the fact they (the clones) have absolutely no intention of doing so. Ok, maybe UMAX wants to expand the Asia market. Anyway, the cloners are going to have to pay more. The debate is: how much? This one will get resolved soon, probably when the new CEO is on board.
As for your comment "NeXt way ahead of it's time??, lost in cyberspace I say. A proprietary right angle wrench into nowehere with no volume, no co-developers, and no bug free fast code. Dogsville all the way." I suggest to review the copious current data on Rhapsody. It's been a decade long incubation, but that NeXT OS is impressing most people who work with it.
Don't forget, Windows XX is nothing more than an elaborate kluge of of code built on DOS. An early affiliation with IBM and good marketing have made it a hit, but it's showing its age. Only time will tell whether Rhapsody will make any inroads in its market. But I wouldn't rule it out.
