TexasDude, From SmartMoney Interactive,
"The software allows a person to say into a headset what he or she would normally type. What's interesting about Dragon Systems is that they are taking on IBM's latest speech recognition product, ViaVoice, and winning. The reason why people seem to like NaturallySpeaking over ViaVoice is because of its ease of use. When we tried it, it only took us 20 minutes to train our PC to understand our voice, and we were dictating in no time at all.
The best news about this latest generation of speech recognition products is that it's now affordable for the masses. Dragon's Personal edition only costs $179, and has been on the market since June. This week, the company launched the Preferred ($249) and Deluxe editions ($695). The newer versions seem to be aimed at professionals who can customize their software to include, say, medical terms for doctors. All three models come with a headset and microphone. Dragon Systems is privately held, but 25% of it is owned by Seagate Technology (SEG)."
I would think speech recognition software would drink hard disk capacity like water. A "killer app" in this field would be a godsend to the entire dd industry.
Where did you see the reference to "going public"?
