Slower PC wtih AntiVirus (AV) Software.

OS = WindowsXP

I installed Norton AV and now my PC is slower. I tried to configure it so it ONLY scans files that I download but every time I open an MS Office XP file (Word or Excel) it calls for 1 or sometimes 2 virus scans before it lets me work on the file.

In the past, I would uninstall the software and run a weekly virus scan from the CD. I don't open attachments and I don't use MSFT email and I have java turned off in the email program I do use... so I've been safe from all the viruses so far. My machine is still pretty fast as I paid extra for a fast disc drive, but it is only a 1.5G Mobil Pentium. Perhaps they are not used to people complaining about it taking 4 rather than 2 seconds to open a file? I use two monitors and have many windows open at all times so I like my files to open quickly....

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions on how to configure NAV to run faster and not scan local files, let me know. I have turned "Auto-Protect" off but that didn't seem to stop it from scanning many files.

Thanks
