i have never gotten a wireless adapter to work with a computer running 98se. what i did was hard wire the win98se puter to the router . everyone else's puters has win xp with wireless cards. it's actually 2 networks i have setup. i "lent" my neighbor the equipment (linksys) to run his wireless puters and the 98se puter(hard wired to the router). in return, i tap into the network and get free cable internet which saves me a whopping $55/month. can you buy a "switch" to put in between the modem and apple airport? i saw somfin like this for $40 store.apple.com that way, you can connect the dell (hardwire) and the apple airport (hardwire), and run the wireless puters from apple airport and run your dell from the "switch". sounds good anywhooo. let me know what ya think. btw, i don't use the equipmen that you mentioned. is there more than one cat5 plug on your apple airport? if so, then you might not need a switch.
