i agree. As i've been saying for a while, i think Novell is on the block and the lack of a CEO only emphasizes this point. In the past, it seems many other companies have announced they are being taken over the day they release earnings. Again, i think Netscape is the perfect suitor. One thing i noticed during the several days of Netscape's software development conference is that they attacked Lotus and others in their drive to develop intranet software, but NOT Novell. Seems kind of funny, doesn't it?

From a business point of view, this merger seems fantastic. As i've said, it brings Novell to the forefront of the media-savy tech firm and it brings Netscape the revenues and diversity of products it desperately needs to survive.

The only question is what would the price be? Obviously it would have to be a share swap, but where would Netscape stock go? My sense is that traders would send it downward. i would accept anything less than $16-17 a share for Novell. If they low-ball it, i'll be pissed as hell.

Look for a buyout announcement early next month.
