Ericsson/China Unicom -2: To Expand 5 GSM Mobile Networks (Dow Jones) 08/23/2000 --From a DJ News Alert.-- Cooters STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Sweden's Telefon AB LM Ericsson (ERICY) said Wednesday it has received five contracts worth a combined $176 million for the expansion of China Unicom Ltd.'s (CHU) GSM 900 mobile phone networks in five Chinese provinces. Ericsson equipment will be used to expand China Unicom's networks in Jilin, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei. The expansion projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2000 and will increased the capacity of the networks to 3.83 million subscribers, Ericsson said. Ericsson's two manufacturing joint ventures in China - Beijing Ericsson Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. and Nanjing Ericsson Mobile Commmunication Co.
