Routine systemic steroids would reduce your initial immune response to illness, so please don't try this.

If Dex turns out to be effective, it will likely be because it attenuates an over-reaction of your immune system, so to speak. This is why its used to dampen the immune mediated inflammatory response to a whole host of autoimmune disorder, for example lupus.
