You should be able to right click on the bad version of Notepad and select properties. Change the information that is displayed to match the properties of the version of Notepad that works (right click on the good version and select properties). You should see something like a target value of "%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe" and a start in value of "%windir%".
