My challenge to the Left is this: see if you can get Medicare and Medicaid to work as well as you believe the French system works or the Canadian system works or whichever you think we ought to be striving for. Only then should you reach for additional government responsibility.

Great point.

But, somehow, I doubt that those in favor of government take-over of health care would take up the challenge.

For the real hard core lefties, it is not really that they care about the results (medical care being more accessible to working poor). I think it is more the power that it will give them, and the overall advance of collectivism which is what they are after.

Now, just of a second, imagine that such basket cases as New York State could get their Medicaid act together, reducing the cost to "normal" (private insurance) level of 1/2 to 1/3 of what the state pays now, the state could automatically provide insurance to 2x to 3x people for the same cost. I don't have the number of people under Madicaid and Medicare handy, but I imagine that the uninsured would instantly disappear.

But I am not holding my breath.
