Well, yes, we often bought land unfair and unsquare, but from my understanding that was more because the Europeans, being so rooted in land ownership as a basic concept of society, didn't understand the NA concept of non-ownership of land. They were compelled to feel that somebody HAD to own it, and they felt compelled to buy it from somebody in order to believe that they could obtain legal title to it. So the purchases were based on their belief system, not the NA belief system.

That's how I have understood it.
