I agree. This is turning into the inevitable global (telecoms) poker game. The US market will rationalise into not more than 4 or 5 national players within the next 12 months. Among the candidates are, (in no particular order):

1. AT&T
2. MCI Worldcom
3. Sprint
4. SBC/Ameritech
5. Bell Atlantic/GTE
6. BellSouth
7. Airtouch/Vodafone

plus a handful of mid-size players such as QWST, GBLX, USW, Alltel, Level 3, Nextel etc. The latter are all candidates to be taken over, IMHO. And we can't leave out the European behemoths: BT, C&W, France Telecom & Deutsche Telecom.

ALL of these are run by BIG men with egos bigger than the front door to the White House.

Question is, which are are the better investments: the ones likely to be swallowed up, or the ones doing the swallowing. Of course, everyone will want to avoid the ones left by the roadside........
