Answers on status of DOJ bill . . .

Since we have two different versions being reconciled in conference right now, there is no "as is." But we expect a good result out of conference on our subject, since both Houses are in sync on it, and then the total Conference product has to get approved in identical form in the House and in the Senate. This is SOP for all bills. Then the President gets to sign.

Each of the 13 bills is taken up separately. I think some have already passed and been signed.

I slightly misspoke to say that there would be a shutdown. We are operating under continuing resolutions as interim measures, and these have to be extended to keep the government going. No one wants an interim measure for a whole year, however, and we would be back into a potential shutdown game if ultimately there were no deal made on an appropriations bill. The point is, after what happened in 1995-96, they will pass real appropriations bills for each part of the standing government.

PS - Bought more IDX today.
