After reading your post and thinking about what Ron said in his just before it, I wonder whether the market makers are going through a period of accumulation at a slowly decreasing price (which they have control over to a great extent) so that when the next piece of good news arrives, it can jack up the ask price to expand their profits. I an almost see the individual sitting in his/her chair doing this and thinking about the profit-based performance bonus attached to it by his/her bosses.
