In addition, I'd like to address the issue of both ends of the connection you brought up. As an access technology, ADSL has a modem at the premises side of the connection and a DSLAM at the CO side. My figures address both ends. The far end of the logical data connection, like a portal or company server, is not restricted to using ADSL, so therefore is an independently connected site.
