Profnet Sources for Thursday, Feb. 1:
Bush To Push Faith-Based Initiative

MAKING his case before a host of believers, President Bush is appealing to lawmakers, foreign
heads of state and spiritual leaders for support as he tries to expand religious groups' roles in
helping the needy. The president, who is to address the National Prayer Breakfast today, also
was emphasizing the significance of faith in society. ''Faith is important to the civility of our
country,'' Bush said
in remarks prepared for the breakfast. Capping a week in which he has
focused on less-fortunate members of society, Bush is to propose new federal help for disabled
