PEST PATROL - I got it free with ZA PRO a couple of years ago and they recently gave me a total new version because of some corruption problem when my prior update would not work. I think the price is about 29.95 and I would recommend it.
I don't know for sure but PP seems to do a good job on Trojans and all the other pests.
I'd be interested in other comments here. They do fall down on telling you exactly what goes on and on settings. Typical of these companies, they tell you to have every feature on running in RAM all the time. This slows down a machine.
I'd be interested in seeing what others use for settings, particularly in the options tab. Do you scan everything? Do you run each component all the time?
Under "automatic scan," there are 4 components and I run mem check, ppcontrol, and cookie patrol as "invoke on boot." I don't tell it to scan on login as I do a full scan every few days. By full scan, I tell it to do all files. This takes a couple of hours and I usually do it when I know I'm not using the computer.
There are categories of "what to look for." On default, it limited the choices which I think is bad. I checked almost all the choices except for text files. For example, it can search for files that are known to those that "talk" about making a bomb, etc.
I haven't done anything with the "advanced" tab as it seems to be all registry keys.
Anyway, I'd be interested in other comments from PP users. As I said, this is the only area that help is deficient or vague. |
