I bought PP the same way you did. It came bundled with ZoneAlarm a couple of years ago and I can say the only problem I've ever had was losing a hard drive and losing my license number. One email and they gave me a code to download the newest full version. I run PP with the default settings except I don't run the program in memory. I feel that the places I visit and the care I take with email pretty much eliminates the chances of me picking up the worst baddies out there. I do run a thorough scan about once a month and update and run the quick scan about once a week. A year or so ago PestPatrol was rated as a good trojan program by one of the Security sites. I don't remember which.
