Interesting ranking of brokers. I deal with 3 of them: TD, Action Direct, and Etrade. Like TD the best, although more expensive than Etrade. Quite a few times I've entered a limit price, and TD filled at a higher price. So... it appears, TD doesn't get its market maker to play games with spread. For instance, today I sold NA aking $23.95 (6 bid $23.65, 40 ask $24.00) and TD filled me at $24. However, TD's server has habit of occasional breakdowns.. like in the morning when Nortel sank (what a time to break down).

I have very poor experience with Etrade... especially their customer relations staff. They don't know much and are very poor in problem solving. For example, they charged me for a service I didn't ask for and it took me many calls to various customer relations people before I got the problem fixed. And don't try and ask for a manager to resolve things for you... whoever the manager is he/she does not talk to clients!

Action Direct.. is typical Royal Bank culture... stuffy and expensive... and very unfriendly. Once I couldn't do an online trade cause their web was down. Phone the trader.. and before he agreed to give me the online discount... he said he has to test the web-site first!! I guess he thought I was trying to bluff him that the web-site was down!! What a stuffy organization!
