So, does this mean that AOL becomes a long term national telecommunications infrastructure play, as well as fulfilling their content role?

I wouldn't bet on it. It's difficult to rationalize actions that are taken in a moment of panic. Such usually winds up being a new story fabricated in order to justify the statements that were originally made.

And Teledesic? What are the odds that they will pull their act off on schedule? Any ideas regarding their fate, in general?
