Cleveland Indians shareholders approve sale

CLEVELAND, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Shareholders of Cleveland Indians Baseball Co. Inc. (NasdaqNM:CLEV - news) on Monday approved the sale of the American League baseball team to attorney Lawrence Dolan and his family for about $350 million.

The sale was approved by Major League Baseball on Jan. 19 and was expected to close by mid-February. The company has said that Dolan would pay between $22.57 and $22.65 a share for the publicly held team.

The Indians led the American League in attendance in 1999, drawing around 3.5 million people. They finished the year with a 97-65 record to lead the AL Central Division but lost to the Boston Red Sox in the AL Division series.

The team made the World Series twice in the past five seasons, but has not won the championship since 1948.
