The recently announced Argentine coin sale could make new selections available to numismatists and investors. Certain coin series may appreciate in value depending on the makeup of the central bank reserve; they plan to melt down any unsold coins into gold bars, and some of the reserve may be viewed as "overhang" by collectors. If the less popular coins are melted down, the coins in circulation may appreciate in value.

The central bank is allegedly selling the coins to cash in on the premium of collector gold coins over spot bullion prices.
