An online friend of mine described the TELCO out there on the islands as one giant good 'ol boy monopoly left over from the sugar plantation days. He went on to say that as a network infrastructure provider in his field people actually view bribes of GTE personel as an accepted and expected part of business.

I would write to the FCC. Hopefully with the TELCO dereg all this will change for you, but GTE is so entrenched and uses such knee-breaking tactics, it may be awhile. My understanding is that they are part Yakuza and part Chicago thugs.

Believe me, the rest of the world is NOT like Hawaii and GTE. Thank God.
