Company Press Release
Star Technologies Acquires Curran Data Technologies; Acquisition Broadens Star's Data Capture Solutions
STERLING, Va., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Star Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:STRR) today announced it has acquired Curran Data Technologies (CDT), a $2.3 million data entry services company located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Financial terms of the acquisition were not released. The CDT acquisition, Star's second during the past three months in the document imaging and processing market, is part of Star's long-term growth plan to build market presence through strategic and synergistic acquisitions. With the CDT acquisition, Star has significantly broadened its solutions -- providing both data capture and processing software products and data entry imaging services.

''Our goal is to offer customers total data capture imaging solutions -- whether they choose to build a state-of-the-art system in-house or outsource their data capture imaging needs,'' said Robert C. Compton, President of Star Technologies, Inc. ''For companies who choose to configure their own systems, the PowerScan and StageWorks data capture and processing software products are key components in a robust, leading-edge system. For organizations that find outsourcing to be an attractive alternative, our new CDT subsidiary offers a broad range of cost-effective data entry imaging services.''

The data entry services industry is a multi-billion dollar growing market. Its growth has come from its ability to help businesses -- particularly in document-intensive industries such as insurance, healthcare, financial services, transportation and government -- extract valuable data from business documents in a timely, cost-effective manner.

Founded in 1988, CDT is a data entry services company, which provides both domestic and off-shore outsourcing services. CDT's comprehensive services include: lock box remittance processing, data entry, image assisted data entry, forms processing and reject repair, automated data entry via OCR/ICR, document imaging, EDI, scanning and archival storage and retrieval. Today, large organizations in the private and public sectors use CDT for a broad range of cross-industry applications including medical and insurance claims processing, federal and state tax processing, inventory control systems, credit card processing, and loan applications. For more than 11 years, CDT has processed state income tax returns for the Indiana Department of Revenue.
