I've had a speed problem with my HP 7320 (Pavilion) since I bought it a couple of years ago. It has a Pentium II chip with MMX and 16 MB memory. It also came with Windows 95 and a whole bunch of stuff that I have never used. The 2 gig hard drive has 792,000,000 mb of space remaining.

When I asked the MSN technical support people how to make the system move faster, they suggest that I remove my Temporary Internet Files. I do this and it may help a little on the net, but the problem persists even off-line. It takes forever to call up my Quicken program, for example.

I overheard an off-hand remark about large startup files
slowing things down so I looked in mine and found a lot of files. I don't know whether or not they are necessary to my system or just junk.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,

ka
