Bill,

Admittedly, I'm no pro when it comes to Win 95. I've messed with it on the few occasions that I've had an opportunity. Because of this, I refrain from slamming it, as I know that to evaluate an OS, you have to use it day in and day out, with an inclination to explore. What little I did glean from 95, did not impress me (Are there products like Now Utilities that allow custom menus and the likes?). It seemed to require more steps and less intuitive methods to accomplish tasks. But as I said, this was a superficial evaluation. I plan to grab Virtual PC so I can once and for all, settle these questions in my own mind.
The same absolute certainty escapes me regarding hardware speed. I remember reading a paper many years ago touting the future of RISC over CISC architecture (before the PPC). The author maintained that RISC would pull away from CISC in the future. I've watched Motorola and Intel play leap frog for a lot of years, but in the last year or two, it seems like yhe PPC is just plain pulling away.
Since you've been around all this a good while, and seem to have a good, cross-platform, technical understanding, I'd like to know your opinion on these two questions.

1) Do you really think current Win 95 is (generally) as good as the current Mac OS. And I'm not talking about contributing considerations like software availability. I'm just talking the OS itself.

2) Do you think Motorola is pulling away from Intel or not.

Also, though I would gladly accept a geekish perspective (I'm half geek) a more mass market perspective would be best.

Thanks. I hope these questions aren't boring to you and the other readers. I'm just tired of not knowing and I've decided I'm going to find out for sure. But folks like you can really help clarify the issues.

Regards,

Scott
