it is useful to understand its essential
difference from say, copyright protection.

then, you can see the sweeping nature of
rights granted as to patent vs those rights
granted under copyright, which is renewable.

enforceability
is the key, as copyright protection affords an
infringement action, the designer of a patent
may enforce the patent for the statutory duration,
thus collect royalties pursuant.

there are further provisions providing international rights.
