With physical gold & the regular futures session closed,

would like to see HUI, and leading PM stocks, firm into the close.

Not a big deal. Just another bit of evidence we're in the process of completing an IT bottom in the PM sector. That's not set in stone, yet. But, what I've seen since the middle of last week is very encouraging.

Worth keeping in mind that this is one of the few periods in the year that volume isn't key because Summer volume generally hovers near the low end of multi-month averages until EOM or early September.
