Two instances. One of my Indian friends was talking about his niece back home in India working during the summer as a call-center employee. She was working for 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. Her salary? 200 dollars a month! With no medical benefits. She is not bad at all in terms of her English-speaking skills -- she is brought up on a regular diet of American soap operas, movies etc. and speaks with an accent like that of Madonna, the singer! The same job could be going here for at least 1500 a month... Another person from India was telling me that he has a Plan B in case he has to go back to India for good. He has bought a house there and keeps visiting once a year just to be in tune with life in India. He lets his kids stay there for three months every summer "so that they don't get a shock when I have to move there". (Note that he says, "when", not "if").
