At the Symbian Smartphone Show today both LG and Samsung announced new S60 sliders running S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. This is the same version that the Nokia N95, the first S60 HSDPA slider, runs and includes the new unified web browser, video ringtones and other features. Both models have GSM / EDGE / HSDPA but are unlikely to come to the US in this initial incarnation.

* Samsung i520: A slim slider that features a 2.3 inch QVGA screen, 2 Megapixel external camera plus VGA video calling camera, MicroSD slot and Bluetooth with A2DP stereo. It also has capacitive navigation buttons like the LG Chocolate.

* LG JoY: Has many of the same features as the Samsung - including the 2 Megapixel camera and VGA video call camera. It is not known whether it also includes stereo Bluetooth. The JoY has a slightly larger 2.4" QVGA display. [JoY is expected to be available in Q1 2007.]

[During H1 2006, 24 million Symbian smartphones were sold worldwide to over 250 major network operators, bringing the total number of Symbian OS phones shipped to 82.8 million per Symbian. ... Global figures not available for Q3 but in EMEA 5.5 million Symbian OS phones were sold in Q3 per Canalys.] ###
