Thanks for the old article DiViT... it seems we are both waiting around to buy this board. (I concede you bitched before I did :) The available boards right now are not even remotely competitive. If you want to download DV, there are only a few options: (1) get a computer with firewire built in, e.g. Sony or Mac, (2) buy an entry level board, e.g. Digital Origin MotoDV ($300 best price), Pinnacle DC300 ($600+), (3) buy the full fledged board with MPEG2/DV at $2500+. It would be an order of magnitude drop in price if MPEG2/DV were offered at $250. I can upgrade my Adobe Premiere to 5.1 at $199 ... have you seen people working with DVexplore boards from Matrox or one of the other pro board makers?

I guess the other big question is what kind of disk system is necessary to work with DV real-time. My impression is that I should opt for the fastest possible (10k rpm + UltraSCSI Adaptec 2940 U/W). I'm surprised that Iomega is not getting in on DVexplore, since they have already put out the Buz (M-JPEG).
