Swap meets aren't shut down because someone sells stolen property. Newspapers aren't held accountable for classified advertisers' ethics, unless they fail to act on complaints. eBay's concern is credibility. They are cooperating with law enforcement in every way they can because its a free audit, it sends the right message to potential abusers, and it's the right thing to do for the business.
